Outrage Over 66 Year Old Getting Pregnant

That's like being outraged because you saw someone eating a taco. I'm really not interested in the topic, but the fact that people are "outraged" that this lady got pregnant annoys me. Why do people even care?

Do They Really Want Help?

I watching CNN the other day and they mentioned something about how a certain "humanitarian" group wants to go to some third world country and help establish school, library's, technology etc and I started to think; do these people really want our help? Do our humanitarian groups receive letters from these people saying they want our help? Probably not, many of the people these groups are trying to save have been living the way they do currently for centuries, if we were to help them it would completely change their lives and turn their daily routines upside down. "Helping" them would probably be worse then just leaving them alone. Not to mention, once technology gets established in a population, a whole new set of daily life problems occur, things like printers not working and internet being down. When people get become dependent on this help or this technology, they forget how to do things on their own. Honestly I think the developed world needs to slow down on helping the "undeveloped" world a little bit because our helping them might just make their lives more difficult.

Whats the point of news if they are just going to show news about what celebrities are doing or what YouTube video is getting a lot of attention? Seriously, it really pisses me off sometimes, especially when the news is completely stupid and useless. I hate going to Yahoo and seeing that the top headline is something like "Check out this Ninja Cat on YouTube" or something like "Look what Britney is wearing!" Their has to be something else they could be reporting on. I was watching CNN today and they had a segment about Michelle Obama going out to eat and they talked about where she went and what she ate. Really? Who cares!? Maybe CNN will do a segment about how many times the Obama's use the bathroom next...Complete waste of 5 minutes, I want those 5 minutes back Wolf (if that is your real name)!!!

Mothers Day

Why does it seem like every time a holiday like Mothers day or Fathers day or some other corporate holiday where I'm forced to spend money comes up, that I have no money at the time? Mothers day is coming up and at the same time I have to pay for school, and car insurance and misc. expenses. Why do we celebrate Mothers day anyway? Its a corporate holiday created so people who aren't Mothers will buy stuff.

Well this isn't the first time I've complained about Comcast internet, but they really piss me off sometimes. They need to improve the stability of their network/servers because every time their is a storm in my area (the storms in my area are never that big compared to others) my internet dies. Last night we had a pretty big rain storm and my internet died and didn't come back on until early today. A friend of mine had the same problem. Literally, its every time we have a storm my internet is guaranteed to die and stay that way for hours, its a serious inconvenience for me sometimes.

Stand Up Comedians

Personally, I don't like stand up comedy; for the most part. Most of the time its just people getting up and talking about their life and people laugh; I do that everyday and don't get any TV time. A lot of the stand up comedians I've seen on Comedy Central are complete crap too; however, Lewis Black is hilarious. Now its not like this is my first time seeing his stand up or anything, but I was watching him do stand up a minute ago and it reminded me of how awesome he is. Its nice to actually see a funny stand up comedian for a change.

Time Travel

If you were to travel back in time on lets say May 1st 2009 at 2:00 PM and were to travel to the year 1857 (random year) and spend one year doing whatever in 1857; would you return to May 1st 2009 at 2:00 PM or will that year spent in 1857 occur in the time period you started in as well meaning that you actually return in 2010? Thinking about it; if you travel back in time, the present hasn't happened yet so any time spent in the past shouldn't be applied to the present right? So theoretically you could travel back in time and spend an unlimited amount of time in the past only to return to the present at the same time that you left to travel to the past. If this is actually the case, would you age? If your birthday is in 1987, and you travel to 1857 your birthday hasn't happened yet so how can your past self age? So if you don't age you could travel to 1500 and theoretically spend 200 years traveling the world and not age; then once you return to the present it would still be the same date as when you left for the past and you would technically be the same age right? If this is the case, technically you could live forever; you would just have to constantly travel backward in time.

Swine Flu

I really hate writing about this because it is all over the news and is constantly written about, but it does appear to be getting worse and is on the verge of becoming a pandemic. The first death outside of Mexico took place in Texas and the disease is starting to spread all over Europe as well. Looks like we may have a new plague on our hands. The US states that share a border with mexico are the most vunerable, and many schools are facing the issue of closures. Mexico closed their schools nation wide until May 6th, the US may do the same if the flu continues to spread.

FX Movies

Every year it seems like some new disease gets discovered that causes some crazy panic and this years disease is probably going to be the Swine Flu; unless some other disease takes its spot. All of these diseases stem from less developed countries as well, I'm sure that doesn't surprise anyone. Doctors are always looking for cures for particular disease, but I have a revolutionary idea; cure the country and you won't have to find a cure for a disease. If less developed countries become developed countries, then their will be no less developed countries for these diseases to originate in right? These less developed countries need to kick it into high gear here and improve their damn country because all they are doing is creating new diseases for innocent people around the world to succumb too.

Classic Video Games

Have you ever noticed that as technology gets better and video games and video game consoles get more sophisticated, its the games from years past that are the ones that you remember? Maybe this generation of games is more about demonstrating the technological abilities of consoles rather than leaving a lasting impression. When I look back at the video games I have played over the years, its games around the time of the Playstation and later that I really remember. Games like Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII, Twisted Metal 2, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro on the Playstation; Goldeneye, Pokemon Snap, and Mario Kart on the Nintendo 64; Aladdin, Rambo III, and Sonic I and II on the Genesis; Pokemon Red and Blue on the Gameboy Color; The Super Spy, Robo Army, and King of Fighters on the Neo Geo; Command and Conquer (as a series) and Battlefield (as a series) on the PC; and if you want to go a little earlier to the Playstation 2 era, Red Faction, Smugglers Run, and Midnight Club; just to name a handful of the classics (there are so many others).

I can't think of any game during this generation of video games that can be considered a timeless classic like some of the games mentioned above. Maybe Call of Duty 4 because the game was truly amazing; but even that would be a stretch. Metal Gear Solid 4 was good, but in no way a classic and Final Fantasy XIII is going to be crap, I can already tell. Halo and Gears of War are definitely not classics as well.

Of course their are universal classics but then there are also personal classics. Everyone has games that they remember forever and that they can go back and play at anytime and enjoy even though the graphics and audio might be severely outdated. These are the true classics, and I don't think that anything created this generation, and very few from the last generation can be considered a classic. The consoles we have now are amazing (except the Wii) their is no question, they seem to be able to do anything; but the one thing none of them have done is yet, is to produce a timeless classic, and I really doubt that any of the three new consoles will produce such a game in their lifespan.

Nintendo

So I was thinking about this the other day. Why do people keep buying Nintendo products? They haven't made a decent system since the Nintendo 64. The Gamecube was crap, the Wii is crap and yet they outsell everything else. Why? Even Nintendo handhelds are subpar. The DS Lite is a sexy device, but the touch screen is a useless gimmick and their are no games worth playing. So why does everything with the Nintendo name on it sell like crazy? The Wii's problems are that it basically doesn't do anything other than play games, not only that, but their are no games worth playing on the Wii. Any game that comes out for all three consules is going to be the crapiest on the Wii since the Wii hardware is from 1997. The Wii cannot even compare to the 360 or PS3 in any respect, yet it outsells both of them. Seriously, I don't get it.

Working On Cars

Why does working on your car never go according to plan? Through the years I have worked on both my old RX-7 and my new Tacoma, and nothing I did ever went according to plan. It was never bad enough that I had to have someone else do it, but their was always something complicating the install of some part. I just installed a spare tire carrier in my Tacoma, and what I thought would be a simple install was slightly more complicated. The install itself is simple; drill holes, install bolts, but what I had to change was the way components went together. I had to figure out how I was going to install the different components because the way I originally had wanted to do it wouldn't work because of the size of certain items and the position of the wheel wells in my bed. Oh well...maybe one day something will go according to plan; but I doubt it.

American Idol

Why is anything that happens on American idol considered news? I just went to Yahoo and the first news article is about American Idol. Why do people still watch this show? All it is is a bunch of no talent ass clowns that get together and sing for an hour and then some British guy pretends to be a douche bag on national TV and everybody loves it. I don't understand! Who cares about who won or lost? Nobody who has ever won on that show has made a decent name for themselves. Their was that one chick that made the song "Since You Been Gone," but I just proved my point right their because I can't remember her name. She sucks anyway, just like all the other people who have won on American Idol. Their is probably some other news that could be put in the top spot on Yahoo, why does it have to be American Idol crap?

The End of GM

With all the news about GM being shoved down my throat everyday by the media, I got to thinking; are we going to see the end of GM? Will it be a bad thing? All car companies are taking a hit across the board in sales, including crappy Hyundai and Kia. But GM seems to be the most hurt. What happens if they actually go out of business? Will all of their customers start buying Fords? GM doesn't make that many interesting cars anyway, but if they go out of business; we're talking a loss of Saturn, Chevy, Pontiac, GMC; I know I'm forgetting some, but you get the point. That's a lot of cars that are going to no longer be available. Ford seems to be doing OK as well as Chrysler; at least in relation to GM, but they are both still hurting. Will we let GM fall, or will they pick themselves up at live to fight another day? We shall see...

Deadliest Warrior

So typically I would argue that Spike TV sucks unless they're playing James Bond movies; but I think they really have a hit on their hands with the show Deadliest Warrior. The show is great from both an educational and entertainment perspective. The show really gives you an idea of the weapons, methods, and tactics various warriors would have used. This week we had the Ninja vs the Spartan. Winner was the Spartan. Next week we have the Pirate vs the Knight. Its really a good show and I encourage anyone interested in ancient warriors, weapons, tactics, whatever; to check it out. Its on Tuesdays at 10 pacific on Spike TV.

Ninja Criminal

According to an article on Yahoo today, a man dressed like a ninja tried to rob a convenience store. When he walked into the store with his sword on his belt, some lady picked up her phone to call the cops, but when the "ninja" saw this he actually asked the lady if he was calling about him. When she said she was calling about him, the ninja left and tried to rob a dry cleaner. He pointed his sword at the cashier and asked for the money, but the cashier said she can't open the register and the ninja left.

This is the most hilarious robbery ever! Some guy dressed like a ninja trying to rob stores. Really? He didn't even try that hard, he just walked out when the cashier said she couldn't open the register. This guy has to be the laziest ninja ever. And if he was actually ninja, he would swoop down from the rafters and do 7 flips in the air and take the money from the register when the cashier opens it to make change. Then when he lands, he would throw a smoke bomb to disorient and confuse people and disappear. This guy is definitely not a ninja.

Would you call the cops on him if you were there? I mean, he didn't really do anything even though he tried to rob some stores. He is probably the laziest robber ever. He walked in and walked out like he was bored. I'd just the leave the guy alone. Tonight on Spike TV is a show called Deadliest Warrior where they are pitting a Spartan warrior and a Ninja against each other. Watch the show and we can see what would happen if a guy dressed as a Spartan were there to rescue the people in the stores from the guy dressed like a ninja.

This Whole Miss USA Thing...

Not that I really care or follow the Miss USA crap at all, but I think it is a little unfair that Miss California lost. Now for starters, don't think that because I live in California that I have pride in the state and feel that she should have won; that is not the case because I actually hate California with a passion.

Anyway; according to an article on Yahoo, Miss California lost the pageant because of an answer to a question about gay marriage. She said she was raised to believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. That is perfectly understandable and she is entitled to her own beliefs. It is unfair that she lost the pageant due to that answer because that is her own personal belief, so she lost because of something she believes; she lost on an opinion question. Not to mention, if you haven't seen the guy who asked the question, he's probably one of the gayest people ever (not a bad thing, just saying) and the only reason he didn't vote for Miss California was because he is gay himself and got offended by her answer. How is that fair at all? She is entitled to her opinions, and choosing to vote against her because she doesn't believe the same way as a judge is just unfair.

Government Hiring Hackers

The US government is hiring hackers. A company called General Dynamics Information Technology put out an ad for the Department of Homeland Security calling for any hackers out there to apply. The pentagon wants to increase the amount of "cyberexperts" from 80 to 250 by 2011. The reason the government is calling for these hackers is because a study was performed that showed that the US government is not prepared for a cyberattack. This is probably due to China's hackers and the news a couple weeks ago that Chinese hackers hacked into the computers of over 100 different nations including the US. Well its good to see that something is being done to stop cyberattacks, and that it is being done quickly.

Cheap Blu-Ray Players

Blu-ray sales have doubled since last year, and they are expected to continue the upward trend. Blu-Ray players can be expensive though and many people scrambled to buy them on black Friday when the players could be purchased for just over $100 in certain stores. Now, however; it looks like we will be able to get these players for $99 in the near future. The Blu-Ray Disc Association (Yea...) has brought Blu-Ray technology to China.

Yes you heard right; we will all be able to buy cheaply made Chinese Blu-Ray players. Yay for consumers! Hopefully these Blu-Ray players won't cause consumers to get sick or start killing people or something. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up like the Ford Pinto and exploded when dropped or something. The Sony PlayStation 3 is the best Blu-Ray player you can currently buy, the only downside is that its kind of pricey; if you're looking for just a Blu-Ray player that is. The reason its the best is because its future proof; meaning that with constant firmware updates, the newest audio and video formats can always be played on the PS3, its always hooked up to the Internet so you can use the BD-Live feature of some Blu-Ray movies, and it plays all of the current audio codecs so you can get the best sound available. This news doesn't affect me because I will be sticking with my PS3, but this is good news for those that want to make the transition to Blu-Ray. The Blu-Ray collecting is fun, but paying the price is not!

Waking Up Canadian

According to an article on yahoo news, Canada will be passing a law that grants Canadian citizenship to any Canadian who was forced to take up other citizenship when they left Canada. The eligible future Canadians will automatically become Canadian, but don't get proof of citizenship unless they apply for it. This law also grants citizenship to kids of the eligible future Canadians. Canada is not going to inform any individual or even countries the individual resides in of the citizenship.

Does that mean these people will get dual citizenship? How do people find out that they've been given citizenship, do they have to call a telephone hotline or something? They can renounce the citizenship as well; but if you can get dual citizenship, why would you refuse it?

Knowledge Generation Bureau

I'm sure many of you have seen the commercial for the Knowledge Generation Bureau (KGB) where they claim that if you text them a question to 542 542 they will text you back an answer. Any answer for just 99 cents! This has got to be the most genius scam ever! Think about, the questions probably come into a central hub somehwere, and some guy goes through each question one by one and looks up the answer on the internet and sends the answer to the persons phone. The central hub is probably some average computer in some guys basement somewhere. This scam is genius, wish I had thought of it. I'm tempting to text a question to them to see how they answer it; whether its automated or not. I'll text a question like: "Are their any hot chicks that work at the KGB?" and see what response I get.

Pirates Seek Revenge

Over the last couple of days I have been reading, and hearing on TV about how Somali pirates are going to start seeking revenge for the death of their comrades. I believe they are just using the three pirates that died as an excuse to raid more foreign ships because several times I have seen pirates leave comrades behind proving that their is no honor among thieves. The pirates said that they are going to target US and French ships specifically because they are the main two countries who are actively fighting to weaken the Somali pirates' hold on the active shipping lanes off the coast of Somalia. Looks like we can add Somali pirates to the growing list of people/groups that intentionally want to target and harm US citizens.

What makes piracy so bad is that due to international maritime laws, no guns are allowed to be on board any non military vessel. These laws are put in effect to weaken the chance for mutiny's, and to protect cargo on board that might ignite if subjected to any sort of spark. On vessels carrying this type of cargo, cell phones aren't even allowed. If cell phones aren't allowed, guns definitely won't be.

Meanwhile, French naval forces raided a pirate mother ship capturing 11 Somali pirates and stopping an attack on a Liberian cargo ship. Good job guys! I knew you're military would eventually be good for something!

Obamas Claim $2.7 Million

President Obama and his wife made $2.7 million last year, mostly from book sales. That is a lot of money for a President, especially one that claims to be a man of the people and to not be an elitist. And he even got raped by his taxes because he had to pay a little over 30% in taxes. Well I guess if you want to seem like you're an average American, getting raped by taxes is a good way to do it. That being said, I would gladly pay 30% in taxes if I made $2.7 million a year. Sadly, I work for a cold, heartless corporation that treats its employees like terrorists treat westerners and I will probably never make more than $1200 a month there.

Personally I can't wait for the Red Dead sequel because the first one was so awesome and really underrated. Spike Show About Pirates

The article said they expect to start filming in 2 weeks and they expect to have watchable shows airing on their network by september. Sounds like a pretty cool show, I'm definately going to catch it. Keep an eye out for previews and what not. Might even be a cool career to consider....

Chinese Hackers

I was reading an article in a magazine today and it was talking about the amount of hacking that goes on in China. It was a very interesting article and also somewhat frighting. Hackers in America are essentially activists/hippies, whereas the hackers in China are more or less political. While the hackers may not be employed by the government directly, the government doesn't do much to combat the hackers. And why should they? The hackers are attacking computer systems of China's enemies so the government has no reason to combat hackers.

Much of these Chinese hackers form groups with as many as 3000 people or more. These hacker groups have members that are usually in their 20s, they have blogs, they show pictures of themselves, and openly talk about their work. They also compete with each other and try to outdo one another. Some of these hacker groups have even infiltrated government computers and gained access to classified government material from several different countries.

Something needs to be done about these hackers because they could be a real threat to national security for any nation. If they gain access to classified material and decide to sell it, we could have some serious problems on our hands. Why can't hackers from the rest of the world team up and fight fire with fire? Why can't they all team up and attack the hackers computers? The government can't do anything about these hackers except work on defences; so that means its up to good old fashioned vigilante justice. Who's up to the task?

Live Like James Bond

I Was Right!

I knew it! I knew their would be military action involved in freeing the Captain that was being held hostage by pirates, and I knew the SEALs would do it. Looks like some SEAL snipers took out the three pirates on the lifeboat that were guarding the Captain and others moved in to rescue him. This operation was approved by President Obama. Apparently a fourth pirate is being held by the US and could face life in a US prison.

China Has Done It Again

Looks like Chinese drywall that US construction companies used when building materials were in short supply can corrode copper pipes, blacken jewelry and silverware, and get people sick. 500 million pounds were bought and used in 100,000 homes during a 4 year period. Much of this stuff came in to rebuild houses after Hurricane Katrina. The drywall causes a chemical reaction that produces a rotten egg smell that only gets worse with heat and humidity. It is not known what causes the chemical reaction to occur.

Of course China isn't going to help fix this mess. Does anything good come out of China? Why do we do business with them? Everything they produce is complete crap. We should cut ties with China and start making our own products.

More Piracy Stuff

So the captain of the Maersk Alabama tried to escape from the raft he was being held on. He got caught, but at least he tried. These pirates are having real trouble with these Americans, I doubt that they will try to take an American ship again after this! Apparantly the pirates are regrouping and are trying to form a sort of convoy back to their land base where they can be safe while negotiations are being conducted for the safe return of the hostages they have. I believe I read somewhere that they have over 50 hostages from several different countries. Some they have had for quite some time. It will be interesting to see if the US will try to forcibly rescue these hostages or actually deliver some cash to the pirates. We'll have to wait and see but I'm predicting military action.

Priest Runs Over Church Patrons

Today in Pennsylvania a priest ran into a group of people in a church parking lot with his car. The priest injured 5 people and one lady lost a leg. The priest said his gas pedal "just went." Wonder what kind of car he was driving?

Am I the only one that finds this hilarious? Seriously, this is the kind of stuff you would see on a sketch comedy show or a show like Seinfeld. Was the priest aiming for the group? Even if it was an accident, which it probably was, there was probably somewhere else he could have pointed his car. Being a priest shouldn't he be thinking of others instead of himself? He should have just pointed the car towards other parked cars; but I guess by running into a crowd, he got a softer impact. I knew pedestrians were there for a reason!!

Piracy in the Limelight

Well, now that pirates have attacked a US vessel its game over for the pirates. Pirates have been attacking ships since sea travel was invented, but in todays day and age people seem to have forgotten that piracy still exists. When pirates attack a foreign vessel, the vessel usually gets almost no media coverage in the US media. Every now and then we'll hear about a ship being attacked but it usually goes unnoticed. Now that a US vessel is the victim, you can expect to see the US start to suddenly become interested in anti-piracy efforts, at least moreso than before (by a significant amount). Piracy may even get increased media coverage! We'll just have to wait and see.

South Park Puts Kanye In Check

I had to post this because I watched the South Park episode in question last night and it was hilarious. Apparently Kanye West saw the new episode of South Park that aired last night and said it put him in check. The episode (for those that didn't see it) basically made of Kanye West's ego throughout the whole episode. Kanye was quoted as saying this on his blog:

"SOUTH PARK MURDERED ME LAST NIGHT AND IT'S PRETTY FUNNY. IT HURTS MY FEELINGS BUT WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM SOUTH PARK! I ACTUALLY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON MY EGO THOUGH. HAVING THE CRAZY EGO IS PLAYED OUT IN MY LIFE AND CAREER."

Is he really writing this? Who knows, its probably his press secretary or some intern or something. Either way, I doubt he'll work on his ego...in real life. He may change for the public (to gain publicity and record sales), but lets be honest; he won't rid himself of that ego.

Latest Pirate Attack

A 17,000 ton US freighter called the Maersk Alabama, which was carrying humanitarian aid from Oman to Kenya, was hijacked about 240 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia today. Most of you probably already know this, but what you probably don't know is that this is the first pirate attack on a US vessel in over 200 years. The 20 member crew of the US vessel managed to overpower the pirates and force them to retreat; this is probably why we haven't been attacked by pirates in 206 years!. The pirates did manage to grab the captain of the ship and are holding him hostage in a lifeboat near the US vessel. A NAVY vessel is already in the area.

What you definitely don't know:

According to Cargolaw.com, the last American vessel to be attacked by pirates was the USS Philadelphia in 1803. The USS Philadelphia was ran by Captain Bainbridge who was the last US captain to lose his ship to pirates. The first ship to rescue the Maersk Alabama, is named after that captain; the ship is named USS Bainbridge, and is the NAVY vessel that is in the area monitoring the pirates. Talk about irony! Seems like Bainbridge will finally get his revenge on pirate scum!

Hybrids

All this development and promotion goes into hybrids but I don't understand why. At the same time that new hybrid developments and promotions are occuring, people are developing cars that run off of air, water, and full electric cars. Pretty soon the hybrid car will be obsolete replaced by a full electric or water powered car. Don't forget fuel cell vehicles either. Hybrids aren't as green as people think and are not going to save the planet.

I was watching Spiderman 2 a few minutes ago and it was on the scene when Peter Parker decides to stop being Spiderman. Why would he do that? He has the ability to do something the police can't do; and thats prevent crime. Batman does the same thing, and he has no powers. If Batman can stop criminals using his cash, why can't some of our rich and famous? Why can't Christian Bale actually use his cash to make the devices he used in the movie and fight crime? Technically it can be done, so why hasn't anyone at least tried? Cops are totally useless so somebody is going to have to do it.

If I had the ability to stop criminals, I would do it. Even if it interferes with my normal life. Crime pisses me off and I would actually stay as spiderman instead of giving it up. Someone has to do it, and you can't rely on the police.

So NASA's Chandra X-Ray observatory took a picture of some X-rays emanating from a nebula that look like a hand. The picture is definitely clear enough, and it isn't one of those "cloud pictures" where some people see it and some people don't. It does actually look like a hand. Pretty cool and ghostly looking picture. Hopefully the hardcore religious aren't going to start saying "There! Scientific proof of God! I told you so!" because that would be annoying. Cool looking picture though.

ATT versus Comcast

ATT wins. I was looking at cable packages for both, comcast is slightly cheaper for a similar package, but only by a couple bucks. Not to mention that with ATT you get over 200 channels (U300 package I think?) and the similar comcast package is only 100 channels. Personally I would go with ATT. Now internet I'm not sure. Comcast internet has been pissing me off lately but its relatively fast. Comcast says it offers up to 12mbps but ATT says it offers up to 18 (for the top package), so ATT technically wins there as well. Unfortunately, ATT is not avalible in my area (Sacramento) so I will have to stick with Comcast until then.

Searching for Earth-like Planets

The European Extremely Large Telescope (creative name right?) can spot Earth like planets from 100 million million miles away. The telescope finds these planets by looking at light reflected from a particular planet. The amount of light can vary due to gas and water variations etc. This telescope is so powerful that it could zoom in on the lunar rover on the moons surface. This telescope is going to be used to try and find planets similar to Earth once it gets built of course. The build process may take awhile, because the amount of glass it needs is staggering.

If these project succeeds and a planet similar to Earth is found, what happens next? I guess we would try and find a way to get there, then see if we could establish colonies on it. But how would the transportation process begin if we were to start colonies? Would we have to pay or would governments offer free or discounted trips? How do we bring our things? How do we establish utilities, and most importantly how the hell do we get Internet!? Interesting stuff indeed, and something to definitely think about.

While I was at work today I overheard several people on several different occasions talking about how people in this country are starting to lose it. With all the violence going on it seems like every time you turn on the TV, people are dieing out on the street somewhere.

Are we really losing it? Is society really starting to pull apart? It seems like it; with one violent act probably inspiring a second and a third and so on. Seems like some of the people in this country are going crazy;maybe even the whole country. What are we going to do to ensure that we make it through these tough times with our sanity intact? I guess we just have to keep our spirits up and stick close to our friends; maybe that will keep our sanity intact until we pull out of this recession.

Snow White is Blu

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is coming out on Blu-ray! Finally, more Disney Blu-rays are coming out. This one is set for an October 6th release date. Look for it in stores then. It comes packed with a DVD copy of the movie and will come with more special features than the original Snow White platinum edition in 2001. Blu-ray is awesome!

Gun Control

With all the shootings that have happened recently, many people have started to talk about gun control again. Some even think guns should be banned completely. The one thing that gets me is that people believe that by making guns harder to obtain legally, that gun violence will cease to exist. This is simply not true. Many people who commit crimes with guns, don't acquire them legally, so you're only making it harder for normal people to defend themselves. Banning all guns outright also isn't going to stop gun violence because "life finds a way" and guns will continue to flow into this country from somewhere.

Canada has the same amount of guns dispersed among its populace as the US, yet their gun related crime statistics are significantly lower than the US. Why is that? They have the same type and amount of guns, yet they have less crime? This tells me that its a problem with society, not the gun control laws themselves. This tells me that the people living in the US are much more willing to commit violent crimes than in Canada; but why? It has to be a problem with society and the people living in the country. The fact that the guns exist and are present is not the problem.

Something is seriously wrong with our populace; but then again, I've known that for awhile (and some of you may have too!).

Post The Fast and the Furious

Just got back from seeing The Fast and the Furious and I have to say it was actually pretty good. The last 2 were really corny but this one is more on par with the first one. The new one is socially relevant as well because it centers around a Mexican drug lord and the revenge Toretto seeks againist one of the drug lords crew for something I don't want to reveal. All in all I would see it again; but then again I'm a "petrolhead" so I will see any Fast and Furious movie that comes out simply because it has cars in it. If you lost faith in the franchise after the second one or are writting the new off as a corny waste of time I highly recommend that you give it a try, you will probably find yourself pleasantly surprised.

Google Maps Car Gets Stopped by Mob of People

Apparently a Google Maps car; the cars with the cameras on top that do the streetview part of Google maps, was stopped by a group of angry villagers in a village in England. The reason they stopped the car was because they felt it was an invasion of privacy that invites burglars into their village. The village had seen a couple burglaries recently and this is just an example of people being way to paranoid. The villagers said they feel this project is wrong because you can see into peoples homes; anyone who has used the program knows that this is generally not true. I also don't see how Google's streetview is going to promote burglaries. Their are a couple privacy groups in England working to stop google from doing these street views because they believe its an invasion of privacy. Why are people so sensitive nowadays? Back in the day people would have simply been amazed at how cool the technology is but now people try to stop the advancement of technology and the flow of information claiming this and that; its pathetic.

Obama Wants World Without Nuclear Arms

Well don't we all. Well not really; after all its better to be safe than sorry, and keeping a couple nukes around couldn't hurt. Getting "civilized" countries to give up nuclear arms might be possible, but getting countries who will eventually acquire nuclear arms that have a hatred for the Western powers (Iran, I'm looking at you) will not be easy. Its a nice goal to have, but ultimately unrealistic; its the goal of a dreamer or an idealist. Not to mention, if the Western powers try to "lead by example" by getting rid of all the nuclear arms in their possession, the enemies of the Western world might start growing a stockpile and could use them against us. Just something to think about...

Top Gear Season 13 in June!

The 13th season of Top Gear is confirmed for a June 2009 release! Yes! I've been waiting for the new season. For those of you unfamiliar with Top Gear, its a British TV show that airs on BBC and stars 3 presenters; James May, Richard Hammond, and Jeremy Clarkson. In this show they review cars and go through a number of challenges such as learning to drive 18 wheelers, building their own stretch limo, turning a car into a space shuttle, seeing if a Range Rover Sport can outrun a Challenger tank, and turning vehicles into boats, among many others. The reviews are great, they are in depth and slightly comedic. The show itself is hilarious, and even if you have no interest in cars, the show is worth watching simply for the challenges and the shenanigans the presenters get themselves into. If you have never seen Top Gear and have satellite or digital cable, the show airs reruns on BBC America and I highly advise you to check it out. Included is a clip from the show; a review of one of my favorite cars. The show also has amazing cinematography!

New Iphone May Call the Cops When Stolen...

Apparently the new Iphone MAY have a security feature that allows the phone to call or email the police to inform them that the phone has been stolen. The way it works is the user of the phone sets lock-down settings on the phone with regards to unusual vibration or accelerometer activity, and when the phone experiences these unusual activities, it enters lock-down mode which prevents the "new" user from using the phone and alerts the police that the phone is missing.

Now this all sounds good, but I seriously doubt that cops are going to go after someone for stealing an Iphone. This would definitely make it easy for them to do so, but they will probably claim that they have better things to do.

FBI investigates "Wolverine" Leak

Apparentyl the FBI has been called in to investigate the leak of the almost complete "Wolverine" movie. It had been downloaded several 100,000 times when it was leaked.

This is interesting because I think this is the first time a law enforcement agency has been called in to really investigate the leaking of a movie. We all know that movies get leaked all the time, but most don't get investigated. Maybe this one is being investigated because the creaters of the movie are pissed off that the movie got mediocre reviews by the people who downloaded it before the movie even came out. Those reviews could have an affect on the sales the movie gets when it eventually comes out (May 1st; in the US anyway).

It will be interesting to see who the person was that leaked the movie if the FBI can catch the person.

Cat Gets Face Reattached

Apparently this 4 year old cat somehow got into someones car and had its face almost entirely ripped off, presumably by a car's fan belt. When the owner of the cat came home she found the cat in the litter box with half of its face dangling off its head. The owner rushed it a vet hospital (after waking up from passing out) and the vets were able to surgically "install" the cats facial skin. The whole process took about an hour and the cat is doing fine, no major blood loss or nerve damage.

The reason I decided to post this is because I once rescued a little kitten from a car I was working on at my job. I heard a meow and told my coworkers to be quiet so I could search for the source of the meow. Well I found it; under the hood and as soon as I reached for the cat she darted off and got stuck toward the back of the vehicle between fuel lines and exhaust. Well an hour later, after ripping this car apart, I managed to pull her out and put her in a box until I got home. Luckily she was not hurt in any way. That was about a year ago and I still have the cat. She is a feral cat though, so she is still pretty shy, even around me. But she does fine with the other 8 cats that I have and 2 dogs as well.

It even has GPS location features so you can find your current location on any of the maps via the Iphones built in GPS, no network connection needed! Pretty sweet if you ask me! This app would be great for anyone who hikes, mountain bikes, or goes 4 wheeling. The cost...$3.99!

So I just went to YouTube and there are some extremely moronic videos on their. I just don't understand how some of these videos get so many views. Its not even a matter of interest; meaning I see a video that I'm not interested in but some other person may be. Its videos that have nothing to do with interest at all; like some random chick doing a handstand. Why would I want to watch that video, or anyone for that matter? I can do a handstand, should a film it and put it on YouTube? Maybe I should film myself breathing and upload to YouTube; that would be cool right? No...it wouldn't. China Says They're Not Spying...

Oh China, what happened to you? You used to be cool (back in the Three Kingdoms era).

According to this article, China claims that they are not spying on anybody, and that any government that claims that China is spying is suffering from a "cold war virus that causes people to feel China-threat syndrome." Really China? You're not spying on anyone? Give me a break, ever since China hosted the Olympics they've been increasing antagonistic.

This Chinese spy network was discovered by some Canadian researchers (not the US!). They found that a spy ring had gotten into the computer networks of 103 countries and got a hold of several classified documents. China's foreign ministry spokesman claims that China takes computer hacking very serious and fights any hackers that China may house. Really? You expect the rest of the world to believe that? Especially when the hackers in question were hacking into the Dalai Lama's computers. Come on China, what do you take the rest of the world for? Fools?

The foreign ministry spokesman even has the audacity to say that other countries are fabricating these lies to tarnish China's name. When he was asked if China would search for these hackers he answered "You asked if we will investigate or track down these criminals. I think it is high time to track down those people who've been attacked by the virus I talked about." That's the cold war virus I mentioned earlier. So basically that's a no. China is not going to investigate these hackers because the hackers are probably employed by the Chinese government.

What happened to you China? You used to be cool.

Conficker Virus Active April 1st!

Saw an article on Yahoo about this virus and felt the information it contained needed to be shared to help people protect their computers and identities.

Apparently this Conficker virus will become active at midnight tonight (April 1st), and nobody knows what it will do. It seems that this virus infects various computers and lays dormant until midnight tonight and then starts performing its malicious deeds. This virus has the potential to either spam your computer with ads or record everything you type, either way, it doesn't look good for the people that are infected with the virus.

Certain steps you can take to protect yourself are to run windows update and make sure you have the latest patches for everything, and also make sure your antivirus software is up to date. You can also go to Symantec's Conficker tool, Trend Micro's Cleanup Engine, and Malwarebytes. Please note that if you're infected with the Conficker virus it may prevent you from accessing the aforementioned sites, and running any of the programs on the site may cause your computer to crash if you have the virus. Another wise step to take is obviously to backup your computer.

Everybody is advised to check their computers and make sure they do not have this virus because not doing so could bring grave consequences upon the infected computers owner.

Stimulus Cash

Well, the goverment is going to give us some cash as part of its economic recovery plan. Sounds good I suppose, but its only $400 a year for singles or $800 a year for couples. Its better than nothing, but at the same time, on a yearly scale $400 and $800 really isn't that much; but it is essentially free money so of course I won't turn it down. The money is paid to us on a check by check basis, meaning that if we get our checks every week, we can expect $10 to $15 per check throughout the year. This credit will be given out through the 2009 and 2010 years, and is not availible to anybody claimed as a dependent or anybody who gets social secuirty. Low income earners will probably not see this credit on their checks because they won't be getting it, but they can claim the credit when they file their 09 taxes. Some people may be given too much credit, meaning that they would have to pay it back when their 09 taxes our filed, so watch out for that.

So taxpayers our finally receiving something good from the government; thats good, but I don't see how this will improve the economy. If the idea is to get people to spend that cash, I think we all know that most of us will be saving that cash for another time.

Personally I think we should call upon celebrities to help out. If we were to receive $1,000,000 from every celebrity who works in Hollywood, plays sports professionally, or owns computer companies or hotel chains, we would have a ton of extra cash to use on our infrastructure or to pay off our immense debt with China (which in my opinion should take priority because I really don't want the US to be owned by China). $1,000,000 is not a lot of money to these "mega-earners" and is something they can blow in an hour on a series of cars or a big house. Instead of being selfish with their cash, these "mega-earners" should help the country that gave them the oppurtunity to earn so much in the first place!

The Wii Kills People!!

Came across an article a few moments ago that said that a 25 year old English man died while playing the Wii. Great, first the Wii breaks our TVs now its killing people! This monster needs to be stopped!! The man was apparantly play Wii Fit then just dropped to the floor; dead.

The Wii is by far the worst of the three major consoles for a number of reasons, but now its killing people. Way to go Nintendo, way to make a subpar, death dealing console.

For anybody wanting to give this burger a try, I recommend going for it. I tried the six dollar version and was pleasantly surprised. Its very tasty, but is no substitute for my personal favorite the double western bacon cheeseburger. The bourbon burger comes with bacon and fried onion strings in addition to all the vegetables. What really makes this burger unique however, is its sauce; which makes it taste very sweet and very similar to a teriyaki burger. All in all I would say its a good burger and is one of the best on the menu, but no match for the double western! I recommend anybody interested in the burger give it a shot, you won't be disappointed, unless you dislike sweet tasting food.

LEGO means....

I found this interesting because I used to love playing with LEGOs when I was a kid and I would buy all the new sets when they would come out. After many years I finally find out what LEGO means. LEGO was invented by a Danish carpenter (Bonus! My people!) and comes from the Danish words LEg and GOdt together mean "play well." Apparently later on the company found that in Latin Lego means "I put together." Interesting little fun fact there! Of all the years that I used LEGOs, I never knew what it meant.

North Korea....

I was reading this article that basically had nothing to say other than the US is sending anti-missile ships to North Korea before the launch date North Korea has set for their Hyundai/Kia missile. So I got to thinking; even if North Korea test fires this missile, they won't do anything else such as attacking a neighboring country. I don't see what the big deal is. North Korea is not going to attack anybody, the political backlash they would receive would be too great and they know it. Not to mention, its such a small and poor country (thanks communism!) that they would stand no chance against the US and its allies, and it doesn't matter what county North Korea would attack if they did indeed attack someone because we all know that the US would get involved. Game over, mission failed.

The only way North Korea would stand a chance would be for them to call on the aid of their ally China to help them defend their homeland. But, if the US is involved with retaliation on North Korea, China would be in a tight spot because they rely too much on the US economically for them to attack the US; China might have to fore go giving aid to North Korea in that case. So again, I don't understand what the big deal about this missile launch is because we all know North Korea isn't going to do anything even if they test fire this missile of theirs; and even if they did intend on attacking a neighboring country, they wouldn't stand a chance against the backlash that would be brought against them.

Daniel Craig as James Bond

As a huge James Bond fan I was a little worried when Daniel Craig was cast as James Bond; but needless to say, all the doubts that I had about him portraying Bond were shot in the face because he is an excellent Bond. Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery were my favorite Bonds, but I may have to move Daniel Craig into Brosnan's spot because he really does an amazing job. The last two Bond movies were incredible and I really like the new direction they are taking the Bond films.

The new films seem to be a more gritty, realistic sort of Bond film instead of the some what cheesy yet loveable bond films of the old days. These new films are a reinvention if you will, of the Bond franchise. They're starting all over again from the beginning and although the new Bond films pay homage to the old Bond films with little easter egg type things; the name Casino Royale and the female MI6 agent that gets covered in oil for example (ala Goldfinger), the new ones really are on a seperate timeline so to speak, that cuts all ties with the old Bond franchise. I highly recommend that anyone who hasn't seen Quantum of Solace rent it, its an amazing movie! Go right now!

Best Mafia Movie?

Everyone has their favorite mafia movie, and which one is the best is a subject of great debate among film geeks like myself. The obvious choice is of course The Godfather. A fantastic movie, and a film and mafia genre classic. Some may also argue for The Godfather II which I think may be better than the first, but honestly, that's a very hard decision for me to make. My personal favorite is Goodfellas. I love the movie, from its content to its cinematography; its a great movie and one of my all time favorites. Of course The Godfather (as a series lets say, since I can't choose between one or two) comes in a close second. Its very hard for me to choose between The Godfather and Goodfellas, but in the end I choose Goodfellas.

Some other great mafia genre movies that I think are great are Casino, Donnie Brasco, Some Like it Hot, the original Scarface (not the Al Pacino one although that one is good as well), and the Untouchables just to name a few. I'm curious to hear what everyone else thinks about the subject...

Nuclear Energy

Found this article on yahoo just now and the reason I decided to post it on here is because it discusses a topic of which I am a huge supporter of; and thats nuclear energy. Many people are afraid of nuclear energy because they think that a nuclear power plant will explode and kill millions of people, but this is just not likely. France gets 80% of their power from nuclear power facilities while the percentage the US gets from nuclear energy is only 20%. France has not had any major problems related to nuclear energy and they get much more of it than we do. Something that most people don't realize is that nuclear energy is surprisingly clean and with all the "stop global warming nutjobs" out there, you'd think their would be more support of nuclear energy. According to the article, nuclear power plants cost an ungodly amount of money to build, and is the main reason why they are not being built.

Another interesting point the article brings up is how after the Three Mile Island event, the nuclear power industry faded away, and all the people who built and ran these power generating behemoths have faded with it and their has been no replenishment of experts to run or build these facilities. The US should be able to use France as a model and restart the nuclear power industry. If the president really wants to start up some public works programs and put money into peoples pockets; why doesn't he try and restart the nuclear power industry. Spending money on power plant construction and manufacturing would create jobs, and spending money on education creates employees giving us a postive end result right? Not to mention nuclear power is fairly cheap. Sounds like a win win scenario, but I'm no political analyst.

Technology: A Double-Edged Sword

Every time a piece of technology I own fails to work I can't help but think that technology is a double-edged sword. Technology moves forward for the purpose of improving our lives and making our lives easier, but that only occurs when the technology in question actually works. When the technology we own doesn't work, it just makes our lives more difficult and frustrating. How many times have you had to print something and had your printer fail or your computer fail? That's happened to me quite a bit. When something like that happens, we get thrown into an uncontrollable fit of panic that does nothing but raise our blood pressure. So that raises the question; is technology unhealthy for us? If it raises our blood pressure and gives us cancer, which a lot of technological devices seem to do nowadays, then technology can't be healthy for us. When we replace a piece of analog technology with a piece of digital technology, the analog device usually gets disposed of. If the digital equipment fails, what do we do? We got rid of the analog device and now that the digital device doesn't work, we have no device at all. An example of this is an encyclopedia. I used to have a bound encyclopedia set, but now with all the improvements in technology, a huge encyclopedia collection is no longer necessary. If the electronic encyclopedia fails, what now? I would be left with nothing. When we use this new technology, we forget how to use the old technology. When the new technology fails and we only have the old technology left when we need it, nobodies going to be able to use it because they've forgotten how. Take compasses and GPS for example. How many people do you know that could actually navigate and get themselves out of being lost with a compass if their GPS were to break (yes, there is a method to it)? Technology seems to both harm us and hurt us, make our lives easier and harder at the same time, but that doesn't mean we should stop using new technology. We just need to make sure we know how to survive if our new technology fails. Our ancestors lived without cellphones and GPS, we can't forget how to do that or we may find ourselves in a sticky situation. Just something to think about...

Global Warming Beneficial?

While doing research for a paper I'm currently writing about global climate change through history, I was reminded of something that is somewhat controversial within the scientific community. Many scientists believe that we our still in an ice age because we still have glaciers, even though they are retreating. Throughout the Earth's history ice ages have come and gone, largely due to changes in Earths orbit and axial tilt; but that's a story for another time. If we are still in an ice age, an interglacial period is bound to follow. An interglacial period is simply a period of time that doesn't have any ice and always follows a glacial period. So I got to thinking, maybe all of the CO2 we're putting in the air (which is the main reason why the Earth is heating up again) is beneficial. But on the other hand, once the glaciers melt, sea level will rise and sink coastal areas so maybe CO2 isn't that beneficial, but it is something to think about. After all, we definitely don't want to be living on a giant sheet of ice right? Humans are definitely affecting global warming, theirs no question, but humans did not cause global warming and their is nothing anyone in the world can do to stop it. Stopping global warming is impossible!! Its bound to happen, and is caused by forces beyond our control; granted, we are definitely speeding it up by inseminating our atmosphere with large amounts of CO2. Eventually, whether everyone drives zero emissions vehicles or not, the rest of the ice on this planet will disappear.

A Followup to My Asteroid Post: Defences

I came across this article on yahoo just now. The article ties in to the post I made yesterday about an asteroid that came within 50,000 miles of Earth. This article talks about how to defend out planet from this projecticles. I'll sum it up:

Nuclear Explosions: Just picture the movie Armageddon. Pretty simple, we just blow the asteroid up. And of course by doing that we send millions of smaller projectiles our way.

Nearby Nuclear Explosions: This idea says that by detonating a nuclear device near an asteroid we could reroute its trajectory; downside to this is that we have to do it decades before the asteroid would reach us.

Gravity Tracor: This idea states that if we have some sort of spacecraft hover near an asteroid, the spacecraft would use its gravity and pull the asteroid off course.

Solar Sail: This idea says that we could put a bunch of sails on the asteroid that our designed to catch solar radiation. Using these sails, we could again alter the course of the asteroid.

Interesting ideas; but can they work?

PETA Killing Animals

Came across on article on the Internet today that says that PETA killed 95% of animals in its care last year. PETA? Really? People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals did what? They killed animals in their care?! I might expect that some animals might be killed for whatever reason; but 95%?! That's outrageous! This is a perfect example of the irony of life. I mean, this group gets constant donations to work towards the ultimate goal of protecting animals and keeping them safe, yet they killed 95% of animals they were caring for. According to the Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF), PETA has a $32 million budget. What do they do with all that money; spend it on tools they use to kill animals? Seriously?? The total number of pets they killed last year was over 2,000 with only 7 being put into caring homes. 7!?!?! PETA gets all this money from people who donate, and they can only put 7 in caring homes!? Again I ask, what are they doing with their $32 million? If they seriously are going to make no effort to put animals into caring homes, we should probably stop giving them donations. In addition, I could probably find homes for more than 7 animals, and could probably do it for less than $20. WTH?

California Testicle Festival

Came across an interesting activity that will be going on in Oakdale, California next Monday while surfing the web. On Monday members of Oakdales Rotary Club will be cooking 400 pounds worth of bull testicles for a fundraiser that benefits I guess the Rotary Club and a local Cowboy Museum. This has got to be one of the strangest fundraisers I have ever heard of. The charge for this interesting meal? $50. What better way to earn some money than by offering people bull testicles? Seems kind of strange to me, I mean who came up with this idea? But if it works it works, because this is an annual event that brings in close to $30,000 and draws around 400 people from all over the state. Hey, maybe if this meal catches on, McDonald's will start offering bull testicle nuggets! Imagine getting that in a kids meal!

Earth's Close Encounter

While surfing the net I came across an article that I felt discussed some interesting happenings that occured this month. Apparently, and unbeknowst to me (hopefully I'm not the only one), an asteroid the size of a 10 story building came within 45,000 miles of Earth! This is a huge issue and is something I hadn't heard about until just today. I've seen a large number of discovery channel shows talking about situations similar to this, and none of them have decent outcomes if an asteroid were to hit Earth. Institutions have been set up to monitor the sky and watch for asteroids that come close to Earth or have the potential to hit Earth. These institutions monitor the path of any asteroids they see in order to determine whether it poses any threat to the Earth. And from what I understand, any asteroid that flys underneath our satellites could interfere with the transmissions of these satellites leaving many without TV, Internet, cell service etc. This asteroid was flying above our satellites thankfully. Just to sum up how dangerous an asteroid collision can be; the article states that the asteroid in question was similar in size to an asteroid that hit earth in 1908 that had the destructive power of 1,000 atomic bombs. The frighting part about a possible asteroid collision is that their really isn't anything we can do about it except sit and wait for the collision. Many astronomers and scientists are being employed to come up with a solution to the asteroid problem and hopefully they'll come up with a plausible solution. Thankfully this asteroid missed us since it was discovered on a Saturday and flew by us the Wednesday that followed. This short time period wouldn't leave us with much time to react, even if we did have a solution to the asteroids possible collision. This just shows that our detection methods need to be improved if we are to save ourselves from an asteroid collision in the near future.

Maritime Piracy on the Rise

Maritime piracy is a subject that I am passionately interested in. I'm interested in piracy because it is a crime that goes more or less unpunished and unreported, nets hundreds of millions of dollars per year to the successful pirates, and has been around for centuries. In fact the techniques used by modern pirates are not much different than the techniques the pirates of "yester-year" would have used; only the technology has changed. Even though the world has been grappling with this issue for centuries, piracy still has a 90% success rate for the pirates. Piracy goes unreported because shipping companies are afraid of the bad press they will receive if the public finds out their ship has been hijacked. Piracy is a complicated issue and one that requires much discussion, discussion I hope to bring about at a later time; right now however, I want to talk about the rising trend maritime piracy displayed during 2008.

I'm sure most of us remember the hijacking of the M/V Faina, the Ukranian ship that was carrying Russian made weapons to a country in Africa, which one escapes me at the moment; this was a very controversial issue that brought piracy into the spotlight, but only for a short time. That particular attack was one of many that occured during 2008 and according to the International Maritime Bureau (IMB), piracy increased 11% over 2007 in 2008, with the total number of reported hijackings being around 293. Now you have to remember that not all attacks are reported, and its only the reported ones that get figured into statistics such as these. To complement the 293 attacks, the year 2008 also saw 889 sailors being held captive, 11 killed, and 32 injured. The reason this sounds so small is that most of the time crews will just give in to the pirates demands and give the pirates what they want. This is understandable; afterall, international maritime law prohibits guns from being carried onboard vessels, leaving most vessels virtually defenseless with certain cases where the crew is armed with only water cannons.

The Gulf of Aden off the coast of Somalia along with Indonesia have always been the main maritime piracy hotspots, but many new countries are starting to pick up the deadly trade. Some countries that have started to join this nefarious brotherhood of pirates include Tanzania, Nigeria, Bangladesh, and even some countries in South America! However, their is good news on the piracy front because according to the IMB, Indonesia has started to slow piracy in the infamous Strait of Malacca! This should open up shipping lanes and allow ships to finally pass through the strait safely.

Piracy is an age old crime and is something that people need to keep an eye on. It goes largely unreported by the mainstream media, so its up to individuals to monitor this deadly trade for themselves. I will continue to include piracy information in my blog in order to hopefully educate people about piracy and allow people access to piracy information whenever it becomes availible.

Streaming Video Games??

Apparently their is a new device soon to hit the market called OnLive, which basically streams video games over an internet connection to your TV. This has got to one of the worst ideas I have ever heard. While it may sound good on paper, how it could it possibly be successful in practice? Imagine that you're having a really good round of Call of Duty: World At War online, and all of a sudden the game freezes and a message pops up on the screen that says "buffering..." Seriously, why would we want to stream video games over the internet? Not to mention if you want to play in high definition, you're going to need a really fast internet connection. With that said, most people will probably be playing in SD if they actually waste money buying this device. On top of all that, the company may even charge a monthly fee! Seriously!? A monthly fee to play games that are streamed over the internet when you run the risk of constantly being disconnected from a single player game or probably having to suffer through some buffering screens?! Now again, your gaming experience will only be as good as your internet connection, but even with a decent connection I really doubt you'll be able to run games smoothly.

On the plus side, the device looks good and is pretty small. It even looks like it might have some portability, not as a handheld unit but from taking it from one house to another. We'll all have to wait and see how this device fairs in the video game market, but with the 3 major consoles already holding firm ground, I doubt this device will be able to sneak its way in as a major video game console.

New Toyota Celica Coming!

This may be big news for some of you car people out there. Apparently Toyota is going to bring the Celica back in 2011 after production of the celica stopped in 2005. It is rumored to be rear wheel drive and has a 2+2 seating arrangement. One thing that worries me however, is that it is being developed in collaboration with Subaru; this means that both companies will offer essentially the same car, but with slight differences. And according to the source, the celica may come with a Subaru boxer motor. Granted, the boxer is a good motor, but because I have Toyota pride, I really wish Toyota would use their own motor. If they must use a boxer motor however, I hope they at least have the turbo boxer motor as an option. Another thing that worries me is that the US might not get this car. The US never gets the cool cars that come out in other countries. The Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Evolutions prior to the Evo VII, the Mitsubishi FTO, the Nissan skylines prior to the R35, the Mazda Cosmo, and even many euro cars are all examples of how the US never gets the cool cars. Hopefully though, we will see the new Celica at our US dealerships soon. And if its being made in collaboration with Subaru, maybe we'll see an all wheel drive version ;).

Bluetooth Headsets

For anyone that doesn't live in California, you may or may not have heard about California's new law regarding cellphones and driving. Basically the law requires you to use some sort of headset while driving, no texting either. Now this law is both good and bad. Personally I don't use the phone while I drive so it doesn't affect me in any way, but some are annoyed by this law. Anyway, this law is kind of pointless because so far I have never seen or heard of a police officer enforcing the law, and on several occasions I have witnessed police officers breaking that law. This law also effectively turns everybody in douche bags because when these headsets were new people bought them as a small sort of status symbol and it was only douche bags that owned them. On top of that they're annoying for a couple of reasons:
1. People look ridiculous wearing them
2. When you try to talk to someone wearing a blue tooth headset, they could be talking to someone on the phone but you wouldn't notice because chances are the headset is on the ear opposite the one facing you, so you start thinking "wtf are you talking about?" Then you realize that person is on the phone completely ignoring you; this gets even more annoying when in a business setting.
3. Sometimes people wear the headsets and the headset gets hidden by an article of clothing or the person's hair etc, and it seems like that person is talking to themselves effectively making that person look crazy. As you walk by looking at this person talking to nothing, you think to yourself; "Who the hell is that person talking too?" Then you realize that they're on the phone. Why would you wear something that makes you look crazy?
